Over a week ago, a 13-year old, Louisville female suffered severe and life-altering injuries when a cable snapped while she was on a ride at Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom in Louisville, Kentucky. The Kentucky Department of Agriculture's Office of Consumer and Environmental Protection is investigating why the cable snapped and severely injured this poor girl. Nothing can compensate this young girl for the loss she has sustained and the pain and suffering she will endure. However, I hope the State learns from this tragedy and examines whether stricter safety regulations should be in place at amusement parks and fairgrounds.

The State's investigation is not yet complete. It could be several weeks before the State makes a determination as to why this injury occurred.

The state opened an investigation after Kaitlyn Lasitter, 13, a Highland Middle School student, was injured when a broken cable on the Superman Tower of Power ride severed her feet above the ankles.

The volume of information collected by the inspectors is considerable, Clary said. Inspectors were at the park June 21 and last Friday conducting an examination, and they have been reviewing photographs and witness statements since.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom shut down the ride following the injury. Similar amusement park rides across the country also shut down for inspections.
