The leading cause of brain injury in Kentucky is motor vehicle crashes. Our teenagers (ages 15 to 24) are at great risk for sustaining a brain injury as a result of a car accident. Prevention is the only cure; however, sometimes things are out of our control. If your child, spouse, or loved one is a victim of a car crash or truck crash and sustains a brain injury, you may consider seeking the support and advice of the Brain Injury Association of Kentucky.

Here are a few statistics on the numbers of individuals suffering from brain injury.

Every 15 seconds, someone in the US sustains a brain injury. In Kentucky one in 5 families report they have at least one family member with a brain injury. The only cure for brain injury is prevention.

In the US, the leading causes of brain injury are:

Falls (28%)
Motor vehicle traffic crashes (20%)
Struck by/against (19%) and
Assault (11%)
Blasts are a leading cause of TBI for active duty military personnel in war zones

In Kentucky, the leading causes of brain injury are motor vehicle traffic crashes. Teens between 15 and 24 are the most at risk.
