Maryville Teen Killed in Motorcycle Accident

A 14-year-old licensed motorcycle driver was killed in an accident on Louisville Road in Alcoa. According to witnesses he may hav lost control of the motorcycle and crossed the center line in the road. He hit another car and was thrown from his motorcycle. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries. Her passenger was not hurt.

The victim

only qualified for a Class M Limited motorcycle license. It restricted him from driving more than seven miles from home. He could only legally drive between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Wright was not allowed to drive on interstates.

State-wide, there are 551 Class M Limited license holders. Of those, only eight are issued to 14-year-olds.

The victim was wearing a helmut. The accident has many asking if 14 is too young to have a motorcycle permit.
