Indiana has reinstated the requirement, effective January 1, 2010, that an insurance company must tell someone who is purchasing a commercial automobile insurance policy that uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage is available to them. However, this does not apply to commercial umbrella or excess liability policies.

Many insurance agents would be surprised to hear me say that most people do not have enough insurance. I talk to clients almost daily, who have severe injuries caused by another driver who was either uninsured or just had a minimum $25,000.00 limit.

When I ask my client what coverage they have on their own car, the ususal response is "I have full coverage". This term is meaningless. Everyone should know their policy limits listed on their insurance declarations page.
