A beloved, local minister was killed recently in a car accident when he ran a red light and collided with a pickup truck. The wreck occurred at the intersection of Kentucky and First Streets in Louisville, Kentucky. Reverend Willie Newby was killed in the crash.

Two women riding in the pickup were thrown from the vehicle. Both were taken to University Hospital in critical condition, Smiley said. Neither of the women, whose names have not been released, was wearing a seat belt.

Newby, who police believe was on his way to work at the time, was wearing a seat belt and the vehicle's airbag deployed, Smiley said.

Newby worked as a pharmacist in Louisville in addition to his work as pastor of First Baptist, where church members were preparing a celebration in August to honor his 20 years as pastor.

Members of the Louisville church community mourned Rev. Newby's loss and talked about how much he will be missed.
